Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure variation, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha 8 or better starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A round of betting ensues where players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of wagering happens. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of wagering follows at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of players often get baffled. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to utilize exactly 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical notion in nearly all poker games.

The lower hand is more complex, but really free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the high hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem complicated at the start, following a couple of rounds you will be able to get the fundamental nuances of play with ease. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 offers an overwhelming assortment of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have several individuals battling for the high, and several trying for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
