Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.
Omaha/8 starts like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of betting ensues where players can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. After all the players have either called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting ensues and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to put together the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many entrants get flustered. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must utilize exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical notion in almost all poker games.
The lower hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no low hand available, the high hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem complex at the start, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the basic nuances of play simply enough.
