Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has expanded in acceptance so rapidly.
Omaha/8 begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A round of betting ensues in which players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further round of wagering happens at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants must attempt to put together the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where some entrants get flustered. Unlike Holdem, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize exactly three cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the same concept in just about all poker games.
A low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the whole pot.
Although it seems complicated at the outset, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the base subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha hi/low provides an exciting collection of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have numerous players battling for the high, as well as a few battling for the low.
