Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible variation, has increased in popularity so quickly.
Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of betting follows in which players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering ensues and then the river card is revealed. The players will have to make the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few entrants get flustered. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to use precisely 3 cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical notion in nearly all poker games.
The lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the high hand wins the complete pot.
Although it seems difficult initially, following a few hands you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of the game with ease. Since you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha hi lo offers an exciting range of wagering options and because you have several players shooting for the high, and many battling for the low hand.
