Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in popularity so quickly.
Omaha hi/low begins just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A round of wagering ensues where players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. One more sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. Another sequence of betting follows and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where some players can get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to use precisely three cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same approach in almost all poker games.

A low hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand wins the entire pot.
It may seem complicated at the start, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the basic subtleties of play easily enough. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing assortment of betting options and because you have numerous individuals shooting for the high, along with several battling for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
