Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has expanded in popularity so quickly.

Omaha hi/low begins like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of betting ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of betting happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. Another round of wagering follows and then the river card is flipped. The players will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where many entrants often get confused. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical approach in just about every poker game.

A lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem difficult at the outset, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of the game simply enough. Since you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an overwhelming range of wagering choices and seeing that you have several individuals battling for the high, and several battling for the low. If you love a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha hi low.
