Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has grown in popularity so quickly.
Omaha 8 or better begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of betting follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. One more round of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering ensues and then the river card is revealed. The entrants must attempt to make the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a few players get baffled. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best possible hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical concept in almost all poker games.
A low hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem difficult initially, following a few rounds you will be able to get the base nuances of play easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an exciting collection of wagering options and seeing that you have numerous players shooting for the high, and many battling for the low hand.
